Archie attended his first public event

Two-month-old Archie Mountbatten-Windsor attended his first public event today as he joined his parents at a charity polo match.

New mother Meghan, 37, cradled her newborn son and planted a tender kiss on his head as they joined the Duchess of Cambridge and her three children at Billingbear Polo Club in Wokingham, Surrey, this afternoon.

The Duchesses put in a surprise appearance to watch Prince William and Prince Harry go head-to-head in the King Power Royal Charity Polo Day, held in honour of late Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

Kate, 37, looked elegant in a flowing pink L.K.Bennett dress, teamed with her trusty Castaner wedges and a red Mulberry bag, as she kept an eye on her excited little ones.

Meanwhile the Duchess of Sussex dressed down for the outing in a £545 khaki green maxi dress by Lisa Marie Fernandez and a pair of gold aviator sunglasses by favourite designer Givenchy.

It is the first time the Sussexes and the Cambridges have been seen together as families since Archie’s birth.

It also marks a rare joint appearance for Meghan and Kate, who are typically only seen together at official engagements attended by the entire royal family, such as Trooping the Colour.

While royal supporters were expecting to see William and Harry at the event, it was not known that they would be joined by their families.

The Duchess of Sussex is currently on maternity leave following Archie’s birth in May. However she has already made a handful of appearances, most recently to watch close friend Serena Williams at Wimbledon last week.

The former Suits actress sparked a huge row after her bodyguards told fans not to take pictures of her during the match.

She was branded ‘childish’ and a ‘control freak’ after former world champion Sally Jones, 64, revealed she was warned about taking pictures.

However today any controversy appeared far from the Duchess’ mind. She was in excellent spirits as she cuddled her son in the shade of the polo club car park.

At one point Meghan flashed a radiant smile as she held Archie up for a closer look at his face.

Meghan spent much of the match standing near sister-in-law Kate, who was busy trying to keep her three children entertained.

It marks a rare outing for the two women following months of rumours of a rift between the Cambridges and the Sussexes.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also recently broke away from the Cambridges and their joint Royal Foundation charity.Cambridges and their joint Royal Foundation charity. It later emerged they have taken one of the most distinguished aides with them.

However any strain was far from the women’s minds as they spent time together today.

The women shared a giggle as one-year-old Louis donned his mother’s sunglasses before turning back to his aunt to cheekily stick out his tongue.

Prince George also appears to have a close relationship with Meghan and stood by her side for part of the afternoon.

Following the match proud father Prince Harry walked over to his wife and gave his son an affectionate pat – careful not to hug him too close while he was still sweaty from the match.

While Kate appeared to enjoy some down time with her sister-in-law, she was also busy keeping an eye on her three children.

One-year-old Louis was seen giving his mother the run around as he tottered across the grass before being swept into her arms to go wave to his father.

Meanwhile, playful Prince George kept his sister, Charlotte, entertained and could be seen picking up a polo mallet.

Dressed in a navy blue polo shirt and green shorts, he also wore the blue buckled shoes that her children are known for wearing.

All eyes were on young Prince Louis as he tottered around excitedly on the grass and Kate regularly scooped him up in her arms.

Later on it seemed as though the family were having a picnic from the boot of the car as George and Charlotte jumped into the back and pulled out food for their mother.
